Theros Deck Tech Standard: Doublestrike and Pump, the next generation

Well new cards are out and I'm all over trying to make double strike and pump work again. Rotating out is my favorite Silver Blade Paladin.

Silverblade Paladin

What I loved about this guy was that he have out doublestrike with pseudohaste. You drop him and his soulmate could swing that turn. So where to look:

Ajani, Caller of the Pride

Bam! Same casting cost but this time the doublestrike comes with evasion! Bonus. And the +1 ability is not too shabby. Now we just have to find the shell to slam this dude into. Let's look at straight aggro. And let's try out some of the new Heroic cards. We know it's not going to work in the long run but I'm going to try. There is one more synergy I want to exploit. Check out this three drop.

Chronicler of Heroes

He works with Ajani and there are a few old favorites I have in mind to maximize this guy.

In the one drop slot let's start with two guys who can make counters.

Experiment One Favored Hoplite

True we know the hoplite will have to be targeted but that's the plan once we double strike him up. In the two slot we go with a couple of old classics and one new comer.

Voice of Resurgence Scavenging Ooze Fleecemane Lion

The Voice is a zero synergy situation but hey, it's powerful and I've got my hands on four of them. The other two dudes can make the counter train happen.

In the three slot we already have ajani and the centaur and we throw in the Fabled Hero just for kicks.

Fabled Hero
Why not, doublestrike and counters!

If you are in these colors then you just gotta play the Advent of the Wurm. How great is EOT Advent after they wrath and then you Ajani him. That's 10 damage in the air! woooot.

Finally we got some room for a few spells and here is where we enter magical christmas land:

Warriors' Lesson

Say I get in there with two doublestrikers. Bam they take like 10 and I draw 4. Oh yeah!!!!! And don't forget the counters that my heroes will pick up!!! Yeah!!!

leslie-knope-dance

Ok let's calm down a little. We'll probably just realize that Giant Growth or Selesnya charm is better. Depending on the metagame we may have to drop some of these guys for spells that protect. I'm hoping we don't have to but if so then I'm going to start with:

Ranger's Guile
hey, at least is triggers heroic!

  1. So a bro over at channelfireball is rocking a selesnya list. Here's his list and discussion http://www.channelfireball.com/home/randomly-manipulating-cardboard-suicide-selesnya/
