Oh God, Standard

So I finally put together the white weenie throwback deck of doom! What's kind of funny is that I accidentally stumbled on Scrapheap Scrounger long before I should have just because it turns on the Toolcraft Exemplar.

Draft Report: wheel of fortune

In Musee d'Orsay, I saw a pretty sweet Renaissance artwork entitled Wheel of Fortune by Edward Burne Jones

Basically fortune turning a giant wheel. Kings, once mighty, are now being inexorably ground under the wheel. The great are laid low and the weak are made strong; it's nothing personal. Now I'm not much of a fatalist but sometimes things clearly happen that are beyond our control.

Basic Lands Obsession: and then there was one...

A few years ago I went through and definitively, scientifically really, selected the swaths of basic lands to use in draft decks. I committed to a chronological order of my Magic experience: Unlimited, Ice Age, Mirage, Tempest, and Urza's Saga. Thus both a connection to the past and a gateway to the future as well as limiting the data set so I didn't have to agonize over whether or not the cup island in the future I covet.

So very sweet, so very confusing

Draft Report: 2/4/2017

Drafting at the Gamma Ray. Looking to recover from an (unblogged) disaster last weekend where I ended up in the *exact* same color pairing as my right-hand seatmate. In a six-person pod. Super embarrassing.

I open absolute junk in P1P1 and veer around a little. I slowly hone in to blue/black, with a pick 4 Cruel Finality and pick 5 shielded aether thief guiding me a little. A late Fen Hauler (the huge improvise black fatty) was nice, as were some playable artifacts.

Standard Brew: goofy win conditions ahoy!

So the last time I played standard, this was my deck.

Maze's End
Awwwwwwyeah, we're talking orthogonal win conditions! Bring me your guildgates, your fogs, your jank and let's make something happen.

Now BFZ tried to make this happen with the Hedrons.
Hedron Alignment

As much as it tempted me, there were just too many moving parts. Bizarro win conditions need to find ONE card, not perfectly align four of them.

Here we come to Kaladesh! The land of building entirely too many artifacts
