Teaching Magic

What's the best way to instruct a nerd-savvy individual how to play magic? I have 1/2 a box or so of M11 that I was just going to crank out some decks... but what kind of decks? I was thinking about trying to build around rough mechanics

Red/Green: Learn about creatures!
Blue/Black: Learn about counterspells (and the stack)
The Joy of the Big Creature.

uhhhh, anything else easy to build 40 card decks around?

  1. the company recommends starting people with a red deck versus a green deck. they tend to be the most intuitive and straightforward.

don't teach all the rules immediately. start with few card types. lands, creatures, and sorceries. sitck to creatures with keywords like flying, trample, avoid regenerate. enter the battlefield abilities are fine, don't include complicated activated abilities.

once they start to get a feel and know what they like, give them a "booster", either a real pack or a mix of cards some relevant some not. then mix in the artifacts and instants.
