Stay a while and listen ....

As you may have read this weekend was not my time on Hearthstone. Things stopped going my way on Friday. Then I managed to pull off a 0 win arena run. And then managed an undocumented run and lost game 1. That dude had 3xsunwalker,2xpolymorph,flamestrike. It was clear that I needed to do something else.

Since I was already on battle.net I figured I would step into Sanctuary for a few moments and send some minions back to the fiery hell from whence they came.

What I found was pleasantly surprising. After waiting a couple hours to get the new patch I found a completely different game. There is also an expansion that I have yet to purchase but am seriously tempted by given my great experience with the retooled D3.

First I want to establish how I play Diablo III. I used to care about character power and such. But then Stache set me straight. Playing Diablo is all about using your powers that consume your secondary resource. Because they are AWESOME! Who cares how long it takes you to grind through the game? who cares if you have the max DPS on your character? This game is all about smashing shit.

Man is that game gorgeous!
What really makes the new version sing isn't Lo0t 2.0 (which is sweet, btw). It's the new difficulty scheme. Originally I was super pissed because Diablo always has been and forever will be about Normal/Nightmare/Hell. But once I gave it a whirl the system won me over.

What they do now is automagically adjust the monster difficulty to match your character level. Gone are the days of looking up where to level based on your level:

don't act like you don't remember this bad boy
So now you just smash. And when you want to up the difficulty you don't have to type "players 8" and hope. You can explicitly set the difficulty setting if you want more of a challenge. Or you can back it way down to Normal if you are on the phone with your significant other and can't give the game absolute focus.

The bottom line Diablo is back. Here's a rap to get you in the mood. If you want to play hit me up and we'll rock it. If we get a critical mass then we may have to jump on the expansion (I dibbs the Crusader). Also I heard the game is magical on the XBox, has anyone tried it out? Can my characters cross platforms, I can't see why not.

  1. I don't think I can bring myself to fork over the $35 yet. I've got my eye on Path of Exile for my Diablo-esque fix. Free-to-play, multiplayer and a leveling system based on the Final Fantasy X map-based progression.
