Let's Talk About Counterspell

Counterspell

no silly not that counterspell

that counterspell!

Antigravity gives it an "above average". I have found the card to be wildly variable. Sometimes I can use it to ice out a game. "Oh were you planning on AoEing me to regain control, nah ah." And sometimes they just throw away a crappy spell and it was kinda a waste. The worst case scenario being ending the game with the secret unsprung.

Anyways the impetus for this post was the following entry in our run log:
4/9/2014bcamage931290sunfury protector, wild pyromancer, counterspell, injured blademaster, kodo, sunwalker, 1x flamestrike, 1x frost bolt, 1x water ele

bca decided that the counterspell was worthy of mentioning and he pulled of 9 wins. Thoughts?

  1. when i report those notes, i usually mention rares and higher (counterspell) plus any power class-specific commons.

nonetheless, i liked it more than i though i would. i felt safe when i was running the counterspell. minions are predictable to a certain extent. I can run a taunt and be pretty certain a minion won't be able to toast my vulnerable cult master or whatever. also, the mage can burn me out easily from 13, but no other classes can.

with a counterspell up, even if the villain has identified its nature, they have to draw another crappy spell they don't care about before they can use their power spell. and that gives me time. Even if i lose mana advantage, I think most spells are strong to very strong.

in conclusion, i think counterspell suits my play style of "get ahead and then stay ahead" perfectly. bonus points if you have nothing else to play on t3 and convince villain it is a mirror entity.
