What's the pick? Hunter - First Pick

I will interrupt Pete's in-depth analysis for a quick, classic "What's the pick?" scenario.

The situation is thus: Hunter, First Pick, Go!

A tough one, for all the right reasons.
This one probably comes down to play style, but by my count, we have the best neutral rare and the two top Hunter rares. What's your pick?

For what it's worth, an individual named Vivafringe published a list of arena picks by class (including rares) and rates Highmane over the Bow.

I'll come back and add my $0.02 in the comments once I hear back from you.

  1. I want to live the dream of Beast time, so I'm going Highmane. Secrets are lame but the bow is tempting. But beasts all day long.

  2. High mane for sure. Azure drake is good, but has nothing that could potentially be great. The bow just sucks, forget it. What are you going to get really, an extra two attacks out of it? That's an extra card, if you use a couple of crappy secrets? And in the mean time you're waiting around for secrets to pop? Seems situational at best. Now the highmane lion, that's good stuff. A 6/5 is nothing to sneeze at, but a 6/5 that gives you two 2/2 once they kill it? Sweet. Plus, it's a beast, AND it's two 2/2's are beasts? That's a million beasts, and it's only the first card.

  3. Live the best dream. Unlike that dude we schooled earlier today. We had the cleave ready for the 2 hyenas, blowout city

  4. I went bow. It was great. I got a second one later and played 2x snipe and 1x tempo trap. I got a few extra durabilities over the course of my 11 matches, but I heart weapons so much i dont actually care about the text on the card. I think Hunter is set up to use a fiery war axe much better than warrior.

To me Highmane is obviously awesome, but I like almost any vanilla 6+ drop.In a control style, it doesn't matter what you win with.

I ended up with Frostwolf Warlord, Spiteful Smith (with 2x bows!), Lord of the Arena, Sunwalker and War Golem. In the end. it didn't feel like i needed another big dude.

    1. sounds like someone needs to dedicate a full post to the glory of weapons. stache used to hate them but has come around. however he still needs more convincing.

also how can you prefer living the secret life to going beast mode. beast synergies forever!

  5. I'm still convinced that the draft gives you different cards based on your picks. Who knows, if you had picked the highmane, you might have gotten all the beasts.
