1-7-17 Draft Report: Don't fuck it up
Hello loyal reader!
Drafting down at the Gamma Ray. Pretty entertaining bumping into people getting their caffeine fix at Cherry St. and generally all the chemicals you need to get the ultimate fix: magical cards! Let's bring this KLDx3 season to close with a bang, shall we?
Pack 1 Pick 1... pain train! Well it's a cliche for a reason: it literally fits in any deck imaginable. The real surprise was getting a pick 4 Metallurgic Summonings. With visions of the last LR in my head and Owen exhorting me to "Build a bomb!!" I went for it! My whole LIFE is thunder. The good news is that the blue signal held up, with solid playables flowing through the pack. White was cut really hard after the pick 3 Skywhaler's Shot (that pact was apparently a foil Smuggler's Copter and a mythic Noxious Gearhulk. It also had a Snare Thopter; what a pack)

Draft Report: 1/4/17
Drafting live and "IRL" with the Nird crew. After slurping some udon with Patrick and Elliott we got down to some serious business and cracking some packs. As always, pick 1 is in the lower left hand corner, going up.
Pretty unspiring P1P1 but I get passed an Oviya. It's like the universe was listening to my blog and deigned to test me again! So I snatch that up with visions of being ready to fight FIGHT for my green inevitability card. Hunt the Weak follows, excellent, and then STONE NOTHING. Literally not a single green playable comes through, not even a Highspire Artisan. So I veer around blue and black, taking late Dhund Operatives (yes please) and some late Malfunctions. I mean, sure.

When to fight
I had a minor 'level-up' revelation listen to Owen on a recent Limited Resources. Marshall was talking to him about the fallacy of falling in love with an early pick and Owen pushed back a little. His reasoning was that at the pro-level you need to do more than just reliably draft decent cards, you need to go out of your way to 'manufacture' a bomb. His example:
If this card was just slotted into an average deck, it would be mediocre to bad. But if you build around it, it can be really really powerful, Game-endingly powerful. Hell, it turns Diabolic Tutor into a playable card. Cards that are powerful, that can end the game, are really rare. Anything you can do to increase your abilities to have one in your deck, other than opening one, is vital.
Maybe it'll turn into a beautiful, peaceful butterfly. |

MODO: Milk was a bad choice
A messy, potentially educational draft on Modo. This might be a case where I spent a little TOO long being open, rather than forcing my will.

Reddit Thread (LR cast members had some great feedback): https://www.reddit.com/r/lrcast/comments/5iyszf/milk_was_a_bad_choice_wobbly_ub_draft/

Draft Report: the one-eyed man 12-31-2016
Closing out the year with a draft at Gamma Ray! Sitting in a six-man pod so finding my lane will be critical. Will I succeed?!
Pack 1
There was a bunch of, well, durdle. I bounce around and green seems *kind of* open (pick 5 Seedsculptor, pick 10 Wild Wanderer seemed above curve) but there's not a lot else. I have hopes of white and blue but they dry up. The Inspired Charge pick 7 was just a flat out mistake, not sure what I was thinking really.
